Introduction to Safety:
In this opening video, we explore the Picture of Safety (Gibson’s Energy Model) to understand how harm actually occurs in real work. From there, Andy introduces the Barrier Model, a practical way to visualise how risk is created and controlled. You’ll learn the core building blocks (Hazard, Activity, Outcome, and Harm), how they connect, and where controls sit as barriers that reduce risk.
This session sets the foundation for seeing safety as something you can understand, test, and strengthen… not just document.
Introduction to the Safety Barrier Model:
In this second video, Andy works through practical hazard and activity examples to demonstrate how to correctly use the Safety Barrier Model. He clarifies what each term means, where it sits in the model, and how the parts connect. The session also shows how the model can be worked from either end, starting with the hazard or starting with the harm.
